Highly Commended Award for Broadoaks Park’s Grade II Listed Coach House

Octagon are delighted to have been awarded ‘Highly Commended’ for The Coach House at Broadoaks Park, within the Best Residential Conversion category at the LABC Building Excellence Awards 2023, South East region.

The Grade II Listed Coach House within the flagship West Byfleet parkland estate was extensively restored by the in-house team of experts, before being converted into just six luxury apartments, all of which are now occupied.

Originally used for the parking of horse-drawn coaches before the motor age, and then as a store house for the Broadoaks estate’s gardening equipment before slipping into genteel decay, the 19^th Century Coach House has a striking, classical façade which was carefully restored to its former glory. One of the first tasks before starting the main conversion was to safely remove the rusting and damaged weathervane which stood atop the centre tower and carefully renovate it, along with the ancient and unrepairable clock where a handmade replica replacement was installed. Both are now back in place, giving the Coach House its well-deserved function of both wind and time, just like it did back in the 1850’s.

Whilst still under construction, and before any other home was completed, The Coach House  attracted a high level of buyer interest, and all six units were sold before the building’s full completion.

Set back from the sweeping main entrance driveway, the now converted imposing building is a key influence on the architecture created for the new residential development beyond.

The LABC awards are the largest of their kind in the B2B build industry, celebrating the best projects, developments and individuals who work alongside the local authority building control teams.
