Octagon’s Bob Birch, Building Director, and Anton Dummer, Company Quantity Surveyor have both been proving their worth, by generating substantial sums of money for their chosen charities whilst achieving new sporting heights, literally, in Bob’s case.

Anton, always a keen cyclist, took to the roads of England, cycling from London to Lands End, a cool 320 miles in a respectable 4 days, generating over £3,000 for the Macmillan Nurses. Would he do it all over again?

“Yes”, came a tentative Anton  reply, “but not this year,  as I am still recovering from last year’s intensive training required before I took on the race. I trained nightly in conjunction with my girlfriend, who was limbering up for her debut attempt at the London Marathon.”
Bob Birch, meanwhile, was looking skywards with his challenge. He climbed Kilimanjaro this year, successfully reaching the summit, and the money is still pouring in for his chosen beneficiary Help for Heroes. Currently standing at £5,500, Bob is thrilled with friends and colleagues’ support.

He comments, “ I had already covered all my travel expenses myself, as I had my heart set on doing this climb of climbs, so all the donations have gone directly to the charity. I suggest anybody else considering it, wraps up well, as it’s pretty cold up there in February. Even the water tubes stored on our camels’ backs froze as we neared the top!”
