Behind The Scenes at Octagon with Kate Hancock

25/11/2015

This month’s interview from behind the scenes at Octagon is with Kate Hancock, Sales & Marketing.

What is the best thing about your job?

It has to be the variety; no two days are ever the same. From organising launch events for our latest new homes to working with interior designers on finishing touches and photoshoots, the only constant is that I’m always busy! As an ex-art student, I really enjoy getting my creative juices flowing when working on Octagon’s marketing. It is great to see a campaign come together and really showcase what the company is all about.

I also love watching a site progress; it’s hugely satisfying to see an empty plot of land transform into someone’s dream home.

And your least favourite thing?

We have a large local and national advertising schedule which means lots (and lots) of deadlines, but that’s all part of the fun!

Free time pursuits?

I love mini-breaks. Give me a direct flight to some Mediterranean sun, a room with a sea view, a brace of bestsellers, and some friends to have fun with! This is my perfect way to refuel and relax. However I have recently been introduced to the delights of competitive team rowing, courtesy of Octagon and the East Molesey Boat Club and have to say, it is quite a compelling sport. It is great to be doing something in the fresh air, on the Thames, with a great bunch of colleagues.

How did you end up at Octagon?

Growing up, I always had an interest in property and after completing my A Levels I started my first job as a sales negotiator for Foxtons in Kingston. It was intense, but a great first job and driving the ‘Hippy Mini’ was a highlight!

However, soon enough it was time for a change and so I moved to Savills in leafy Cobham where I began working on more high-end real estate. I was delighted to be instructed on an Octagon site and they quickly became my favourite client – I loved their product! The team were fantastic and it reaffirmed my growing passion for the luxury market. So, when a job opportunity arose in the land buying and marketing divisions at Octagon HQ, overlooking the beautiful banks of the River Thames, nothing was going to stop me applying!

Thoughts for the future…

As my knowledge of the company and their properties has developed, I have increasingly become involved in the marketing and sales operations. Working closely with Octagon’s doyenne of all things Marketing and PR, David Smith, I am being actively encouraged to contribute ideas and activities to maintain Octagon as the number one luxury housebuilder whilst simultaneously developing my sales role. I feel immensely proud to be working for an organisation with such an esteemed reputation in an industry I love, and I look forward to continuing my exciting and fulfilling career at Octagon.
